As former Suffolk County Prosecutors, all the attorney's in our firm have had extensive experience in each of the Justice Courts on the East End of Long Island. All Courts in the eastern end of Suffolk County are called Justice Courts. These include the Southampton Court, the East Hampton Court and the Riverhead Town Court as well as the smaller Westhampton Beach Courtand Quogue Justice Courts as well as the Southold Town Justice Court on the North Fork. The Justice Courts meet on a limited schedule for regular courtroom business, usually two or three days per week. These Courts will hear both Felony and Misdemeanor cases, as well as some civil matters.
The smaller Village Justice Courts, including the Westhampton Beach Court, the Quogue Village Court and the Southampton Village Court all hear both Felony and Misdemeanor cases as well. These are courts of origional jurisdiction for both Felonies and Misdemeanors. However, after an initial arraingment in any East End Justice Court, Felony cases are referred to the Suffolk County Court in Riverhead. Because of their unique nature, the Justice Courts operate under different rules and regulations than their larger more urban counterparts. There is also an East End Branch of the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, with Southampton and Southold locations.
