GENERAL COURT INFORMATION
The Southold Town Justice Court handles over 5000 matters each year. The Court handles Vehicle and Traffic Violations, Penal Law Offenses, Town Code Violations, Landlord and Tenant Cases, Civil Actions, and Small Claims Actions. Please note that the monetary limitation for both Civil Actions and Small Claims Actions is $3,000.00, Landlord/Tennant is unlimited.
Defendants in small claims must live, work or have a place of business in Southold Town, Corporations and partnerships are not permitted to file small claims. Actual filing requires a personal appearance Monday through Thursday during normal business hours. Informational booklets are available by request.
Court Personnel are available to answer questions by telephone, e-mail or in person. Please note that the Judges are not permitted to speak with anyone concerning pending matters before them unless all parties to the action are present.
